A Stock Research Note Template You Can Copy into Your Notes App

A practical worksheet from the MerlaTech team, prepared with AI assistance. Copy it into your own notes app and adapt it to your research.

A saved ticker is easy to revisit. Remembering why you saved it can be harder. A short research note keeps the question, source and date together, so your next visit starts with context.

The template below is free to copy. You can use it with your existing research tools and a plain text document; no account or app installation is required to use the worksheet.

Give each note one clear question

A question such as “Which reporting period does this figure cover?” gives you something specific to check. A broad note such as “Interesting company” leaves the next step unclear. If a second question needs different sources, start a separate note or give it its own paragraph.

Include the exchange with the ticker when you have it. Save the source link as well as the value you copied, and record the publication date separately from the period the data describes. If a timestamp or source is unavailable, write “not confirmed” so you can see the gap later.

Keep observations and interpretations separate

For an observation, record what the page actually displays: the label, number, selected interval or reporting period. Put your explanation in the interpretation field. This makes it easier to return to the original evidence when you review an idea.

When comparing two chart views, note both the candle interval and the displayed date range. Here is a fictional note about the viewing setup, with no stock recommendation:

Question: Why do these two chart views look different?
Observation: One view has Daily selected; the other has 15-minute selected.
Still to check: Whether both views cover the same dates and trading sessions.
Next step: Record those settings before comparing the views.

Leave a useful starting point for next time

Finish with one unresolved question and a review date or event. When you return, append a dated update instead of replacing the original note. You can then see what information was available at each visit.

Keep private account details, holdings and personal financial information out of any note you intend to share publicly. A research note can be useful without including that information.

Using the worksheet alongside an Android research app

Our Android app, Stock Analysis: AI Signals, includes stock screeners, candlestick charts, company information and watchlists for US stock research. Use those views as research inputs and keep this worksheet in your chosen notes app.

See the product walkthrough for an overview, or view the app on Google Play to check availability and installation details. The app includes in-app purchases.

This worksheet is for organizing research, not personalized investment advice or a complete investment assessment. Market data may be delayed. A completed note does not establish future returns. App information was checked against the Google Play listing on September 10, 2026.
