TSMC August Revenue: Why +10.1% and +53.3% Can Both Be Right

SignalSage zero-baseline bar chart, NT$ billions: TSMC August2025 revenue335.772, July2026 revenue467.580, August2026 revenue514.806. August2026 is10.1% above July and53.3% above last August. TSMC reported August 2026 consolidated revenue of NT$514.806 billion in its 10 September release. July 2026 was NT$467.580 billion; August 2025 was NT$335.772 billion. These are reported revenue figures, not profit or stock returns.

The month-over-month comparison adds NT$47.226 billion: 47.226 / 467.580 = about 10.1%. The year-over-year comparison adds NT$179.034 billion: 179.034 / 335.772 = about 53.3%. Both percentages describe the same August total, using different starting points.

Do not add the two rates, subtract them to infer acceleration, or treat one month's growth as an annual forecast. Compare matching periods and currencies, then read margins, cash flow and the business mix separately.

Save a three-field research note: reported period, comparison period, currency/unit. A growth percentage without its baseline is an incomplete fact.

Start with the unit before doing any arithmetic. The release’s table uses NT$ millions. Dividing every amount by 1,000 produces the NT$ billions used in our chart. This changes the displayed numbers but leaves the percentage changes unchanged. It is not a conversion into US dollars.

The chart uses a zero baseline and the same scale for all three bars. Its selected dates answer two specific comparison questions; the gaps between the bars are not equally spaced intervals in a continuous time series. We have not filled unshown months with estimated results.

Monthly consolidated revenue alone does not disclose that month’s net profit, free cash flow, customer concentration or share of growth caused by a particular technology. Those require the relevant reporting period and disclosures. These revenue percentages provide no standalone forecast of the share price.

Keep the source date as well as the business period. The business period is August 2026 and the announcement is 10 September 2026. Reading it on 20 September does not make it new operating data. Compare like periods and retain the original observation to distinguish revisions from business growth.
